This is a reinvention of the classic Paul Simon composition, co-arranged by Peter and Darmon, and recorded by New York Voices (“NYV Sing the Songs of Paul Simon” – 1997, RCA Victor). Simon’s original interpretation was light and upbeat, however the text is of a more somber nature – a child custody dispute. The tempo and harmonic choices in this arrangement reflect the bittersweet lyrics, and bring out the strong pop melody. This arrangement features a strong Baritone lead, with pop/jazz SATB ensemble sections. The solo can be played by Guitar, Piano, or could be a vocal improvisation solo.
